Mary Katrantzou F/W 2010 [Digital Prints]

in II. THE FASHION WORLD

This show was really spectacular. I really love the infusion of new technological innovations into the fashion world. Mary Katrantzou does an amazing job using computer-aided design to create new prints for her garments in ways never possible before. Although this might be controversial to say, I think her works are much more visually balanced and appealing than Basso & Brooke (though no one can doubt B&B was a key herald of the trend). As an avant-garde designer, Mary is certainly more conservative in her wildly colorful prints. However, as a designer, I find her works wearable and versatile. This is one designer you do not want to miss out on.

Of course, it’s more than just her use of new technology. Her attention to accessories and the modern cuts all fit into her whole dynamic as a fresh and exciting new designer. He design sensibility is unlike anything I’ve seen in a while and it’s really refreshing. And while many digital prints are focusing on exploring colors in a haphazard manner, I feel like Mary really brings in a cohesive feel both within and across her pieces.

The Mary Katrantzou F/W 2010 collection was well balanced across a wide color spectrum. I was particularly enamored by her wave-like blue splashes, black backdrop, golden ornamentations.  Here are shots from her F/W 2010 collection that I personally enjoyed.
